About Us
Johnny was diagnosed with autism when he was 20 months old. It was a long time before my parents could find the team of educators and helpers they have today that have helped Johnny with his personal growth and have allowed him to succeed and even graduate high school and attend university. They chose to valiantly fight through his disability, and challenged the stereotypes and other’s perspectives about him.
When Johnny started therapy at 20 months, he had low muscle tone, which makes his ability to create art even more impressive. He started drawing with characters that he saw on TV, like Barney and Veggie Tales, but soon developed the ability to perceive and draw people in his surroundings, like us, his family members. Most people who know us think he definitely got his art skills from my mom. Although Johnny’s art is in cartoon form, he can capture the essence of a person just by looking at their picture. It’s interesting actually, because he draws each member in our family, from the first memory he has of us, including my dad (when he had hair), or my 13 year old brother, the youngest of our siblings, in a baby onesie.
I was born in 2004 into a family experimented with autism education. Having both an older, and younger brother that have to work so much harder for every little milestone, humbles you and encourages you to celebrate the little things in life. Anybody who has the opportunity to meet my brothers, or someone with any type of special needs, knows that they are brilliant, talented, and mind-opening people. I’m truly lucky to have Jonathan and Dan in my life.
I inherited my love for story-writing from my dad, who has been writing his own novels for about 5 years now. He has motivated me to pursue this passion of mine, as it has always come very naturally to me. When I have a pen in hand, I can go on and on, always thinking of a new story plot or idea. I consider myself to be a very creative person, and find a facility when expressing myself through writing, more than in other subjects.
Johnny and I started this project to show the world his perspective on real-world issues, such as the Coronavirus, and Bullying. We wanted to create a project, where we could highlight both Johnny’s authentic art, and my writing. From this motivation, sprung “The Adventures of Wonder Brother” Saga. Our aim through this project is to spread kindness and awareness through our stories and illustrations, while educating both children and adults on important topics. A big part of our profit from selling these books, will go towards supporting and providing resources to families with children of special needs.
Hope you enjoy reading these books as much we enjoyed creating them,
Shana and Jonathan
